This program helps get the wheels rolling during the first week of school. Bus greeters will meet children as they exit the bus at school. They will help kids learn their bus numbers, by writing the bus number on their hand as they exit the bus. After school, they will hold signs with bus numbers and assist children to get to the correct bus.

Ever had to take two pie pans, some string, and some paper and create a robot? If not you're missing out! If you're interested in fostering your child's imagination and problem solving skills, check out Destination Imagination. DI is a community-based, school-friendly, child driven program that builds participant's creativity, problem solving and teamwork in enjoyable and meaningful ways. Teams are usually grade-based and meet afternoons, evenings or weekends.

K-kids empowers children to make their world a better place. This club, sponsored by the Kiwanis, is a kids group that plans and puts into action ideas to help others. K-Kids get to learn about neighbors-in-need, students in other countries, distressed animals, and our environment. K-Kids help children develop friendships, leadership, caring, empathy, planning skills and self esteem.

PTSA Members receive one free directory with the option to buy additional directories for the price of $10.00. Non-members may purchase a student directory for the price of $25.00. Community members may advertise a business in the directory for a fee. Contact the PTSA for details.

The PTSA provides an opportunity to order pre-packaged school supplies. Parents pre-order the supplies at the end of the previous year online. The supplies are then delivered to classrooms before the first day of school.

Every year, the PTSA art program and VISTA (Very Intriguing Studies Through Art), puts on a fabulous evening of art appreciation created by all of our favorite artists...our children! Art docents help each child create a piece of artwork for the Art Show. There is a minor suggested donation at this event that helps fund this important program.

Deadline: November 1, 2011 www.ptareflections.org What is Reflections? Reflections is a PTSA supported art contest to encourage children to express themselves through a variety of art medium. What types of art medium can be submitted? Dance/choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts (includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making and collage). To participate: Start creating . . . then fill out the entry form and make sure that it is signed by your parent and yourself. Also, please fill out the attached form “Diversity means . . .” and send it in along with your entry and entry form. Please note that you can only submit three entries for each student! Top selections in each category will be considered at a District competition with the chance to move on to State and even Nationals! Save your "Box Tops for Education"! Clip them from General Mills cereal boxes and other items labeled "Box Tops for Education" We will send home collection sheets throughout the year. When your child brings the sheet back with the box tops and puts it into the Box Tops collections box in the main hallway, they will earn a prize. The money collected from box tops allows us to purchase PE and recess equipment. So, save your Box Tops!

Our PTSA has several programs that help earn extra cash for Discovery PTSA sponsored programs. In addition to Box Tops, there are cash incentives to the school when you shop at Target, Safeway, use Good Search or Escript dining, and other businesses. Walk-a-thon is the PTSA’s major fundraiser and fun get-together at the beginning of the school year. The silent auction, music, prizes and food keep the fun going all afternoon long while the children walk around the school building. Watch for your donation envelope/permission slip and more information about this fun event in the first few weeks of school. Your tax deductable donations fund all of the PTSA programs. Emergency kits are required to provide food and drink to our students in the event of an emergency in which parents can't reach the school. Parents will provide a kit at the beginning of the school year for each child. Separate kits provided by the PTSA are provided for the areas where students may be when out of the classroom. Each family will be responsible for sending in their own child’s emergency kit for their classroom. Please provide food for approximately 72 hours. The non perishable food should not expire before the end of the school year. ABSOLUETLY NO NUTS OR NUT PRODUCTS!! Other comfort and emergency items maybe included as long as it fits in a gallon freezer bag, note / picture from parents, glow stick, emergency blanket, etc. Label the bag with your child’s name, grade, and teacher!!! Coordination is needed at the end of the year to see what is not expired in the other student areas and then supplies purchased and distributed for the next year.

A fun Friday treat! Kids can bring a quarter each Friday for a bag of popcorn. In the winter popcorn is provided when the weather is suitable. Volunteers are needed to run the machine and hand out popcorn during recess.
