Program Overview

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original and individual works.

Each year, Reflections challenges students to create art that supports a specific theme—this year, the theme is “Within Reach.” Themes are selected from thousands of ideas submitted by students to National PTA's Reflections Theme Search.

Young artists may get involved in Reflections through the Discovery PTSA Reflections program. A student may submit an entry in any of three arts areas: Visual Arts, Photography and Literature. Only original works of art are accepted.

The 2017-18 Reflections theme is: "Within Reach"
Entries will be due by 3 pm, Friday, November 3rd (a box will be outside of the office by Oct 30th)

Reflections Entry Forms and Rules:
  Literature Rules
Student Entry Form Photography Rules
Special Artist Visual Arts Rules 2D
    Visual Arts Rules 3D
Entries are judged by a panel of volunteer judges based upon the artist’s interpretation of the theme. Twelve pieces from Discovery will move forward to the District for the next level of judging. These twelve pieces will be kept and displayed at the Art Show in May.

  • If you are interested in judging, please contact Sarah Manningsmith:
  • Please pay attention to all submission rules. Pieces that do not comply to size requirements, display procedures, due dates, or are not accompanied by a completed entry form may be disqualified.
  • Art should be 100% the work of one student as he or she interprets the theme (the only exception is the Special Artist Category).
  • Please note that 50% of the judging is based upon the Artist Statement and how the artist explains their vision of the theme.
Each year the National PTA accepts applications for future Reflections Themes. There is a $100 prize if your theme is selected.
