Every four years, the Issaquah School District asks local voters to approve levies to pay for educational essentials that the state does not fund, including school buses, classroom technology, and about 20 percent of the operations budget. Because our current levies expire next year, the District is forming a community committee now to help plan the renewal levy measures. Letters are being sent home with second grade students this week with information about the Highly Capable Program.The letter has also been posted on the website and can be found here . The letter details the process that will be used to identify Issaquah’s “most highly capable” second graders. This process includes the administration of the Iowa Achievement Test, the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test), and the SOI (Structure of Intellect) in your child’s second grade classroom. Issaquah School District to Change School Start and End Times Beginning in the 2017-2018 School Year Superintendent Ron Thiele announced today that the Issaquah School District will alter its school start and end times, or “bell schedule,” beginning with the 2017-2018 school year.   High schools will start at 8:00 a.m., middle schools at 8:10 a.m. and elementary schools at 9:10 a.m. Some of these times may be slightly adjusted to accommodate transportation needs, but no school will start earlier than 8:00 a.m. or end later than 4:00 p.m. The announcement comes after an eighteen month engagement process that concluded ... read full article

Highly Capable Screening Test Results Available on Family Access for Current Kindergarten Students. Screening of current kindergarten students for our highly capable program is complete. Those students who scored at or above the 97th percentile on the CogAT screener (Cognitive Abilities Test) are eligible for further testing for possible selection into the Primary Enrichment Program. Parents of students who have qualified for further testing will receive a letter regarding the next level of assessment.  The Issaquah School District administers the CogAT for determining possible selection for the Highly Capable Program.
